iTherm® TECHNOLOGY
Casting Set Cycle Time, Casting Piston Thermal Characteristics and Die Core In-service.
Casting Set consists of three innovative iTherm® products:
iTherm® Piston
iTherm® Shot Sleeve
iTherm® Distributor
The SET is delivered as a problem-solving solution in cases where the casting process is to be optimized and the casting cycle shortened. FE simulation and optimization of the casting process is performed by our engineers in the 5 STEP process. The SET guarantees required manufacturing tolerances and product performance, and as such is subject to our full warranty. Each of our Casting Sets installed reduced the process cycle time by not less than 10%.
Both iTherm® Piston and iTherm® Distributor are designed to permit complete thermal optimization of the casting cycle and maximize productivity. They are manufactured using novel iMFT® technology.
A design-induced thermal phenomenon for the triple benefit of iTherm® products:
(1) In the pour segment the piston temperature is higher compared to other pistons (low heat capacity of steel membrane) effect on the quality of cast part.
(2) Extreme temperature drop occurs in pressurization segment (high piston cooling effectiveness) effect on cycle time.
(3) iTherm® piston has high in-service life (>50.000) (low transient stresses in the membrane) effect on durability.
Thermal assessment of iTherm® Die Core for automotive steering wheel housing is made during operation using an IR camera. Pictures on the left side show temperature at core surface (a) at cycle finish and (b) before the start of a new cycle. The core surface temperature is around 100oC lower compared to the surface temperature of the conventional die core (IR pictures at the right side). In addition to the considerable influence on cycle time (a 20% improvement), there was an important influence on part quality.
